Snippets volunteers help unwanted animals (from shelters primarily) and re-home them to loving families within our community. The animals are presented at adoption clinics on selected Saturdays from 12 a.m.- 3 p.m. at Petco in Longview.
Dogs Snippets fosters primarily small breed dogs. All dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, wormed and heartworm tested. If a dog in our foster program tests heartworm positive, he/she is treated at our expense.
Adoption Fee is $100. This fee is based on the cost of the medical expenses incurred to make foster pets healthy and ready for adoption. An example of the amount we spend on a foster dog or puppy is shown below.
SNIP-Pets Rescue pets receive basic medical services from Animal Protection League’s low-cost spay/neuter and vaccination program. Foster homes and SNIP-Pets volunteers supply their own dog food, flea & heartworm preventative and any additional medical costs.
Neuter / Spay 35.00 – 50.00 Rabies Vaccination 6.00 Distemper/Parvo Vaccination 11.00 Heartworm Test 20.00 Heartworm Preventative (monthly) 5.00 Wormer 10.00 Flea Preventative 5.00 TOTAL $92.00 - $107.00
Cats All cats in our foster program are spayed/neutered, wormed, vaccinated (Rabies, Distemper, Feline Leukemia) and tested for feline leukemia/aids.
Adoption Fee is $55. This fee is based on the general cost of the medical expenses incurred to make foster pets healthy and ready for adoption. An example of the amount we spend on a foster cat is shown below.
SNIP-Pets Rescue pets receive basic medical services from Animal Protection League’s low-cost spay/neuter and vaccination program. Foster homes and SNIP-Pets volunteers supply their own cat food, litter and any additional medical costs.
Neuter / Spay 20.00 – 30.00 Rabies Vaccination 6.00 Distemper Vaccination 11.00 Feline Leukemia/Aids Test 25.00 Wormer 5.00 Flea Preventative 5.00 TOTAL $72.00 - $82.00
Barn Buddies & Porch Pals Occasionally, SNIP-Pets has Barn Buddies and Porch Pals available for adoption. These cats receive the same medical attention -- spay/neuter, worming, vacccinations -- but because they lack the social skills to be housecats, they are adopted for a donation of only $25.
Why Not Get a "Free" Cat or Dog? Even if you take advantage of one of Animal Protection League’s low cost spay/neuter programs, the amount that you spend on medical expenses will be higher than our rescue group’s adoption fee.
Feline Leukemia/Feline Aids are fatal, infectious diseases. In most cases, free cats and kittens have not been tested. Heartworm infestations in dogs are fatal, and heartworm treatment is very expensive. SNIP-Pets dogs and puppies (6 months or older) are tested. If positive, they are treated at our expense. If negative, they are started on heartworm preventative immediately.
If you do not spay or neuter your free cat or kitten you will be contributing to the problem of pet overpopulation in your community. Thousands of perfectly adoptable, but unwanted, cats and kittens are enthanized in East Texas every year.
